Darkness Drops Again is a two-part animated audio-visual installation combining original animation and composed music into a continuous large-scale screen work. Commissioned for the MAP mima Summer Series, the project brings together symbolic imagery, animated figures, and abstract visual sequences to create an immersive viewing experience designed for gallery and public presentation.
The work unfolds across two connected chapters. Chloe presents a myth-inspired animated environment built from hand-drawn and digitally developed figures arranged in a looping visual landscape. The second chapter, Darkness Drops Again, shifts toward more abstract spatial imagery and slow cinematic movement, using repetition and visual cycles to build atmosphere and scale.
Music is central to the structure of the installation, featuring recorded performances by Newcastle group The High Andies recorded in Newcastle and Sydney-based ensemble Satu in the Beyond, with original music by Richard Tognetti from the Australian Chamber Orchestra providing a key compositional element.
Designed for large-format display and modular installation, Darkness Drops Again can be presented across gallery walls, projection surfaces, and LED screen environments as a continuous looped work.
